As a small business owner you probably live and breathe your business. That passion is commendable and admirable… to a point.
You see, taking care of yourself should come first. As selfish as that may sound, looking out for YOU should be priority number one!

A healthy diet, exercise routine and good sleeping habits make you a better business owner. Scheduling out “me time” doesn’t make you a self-involved person, in fact it makes you a smart one.
Experts say business owners who take care of themselves are not only a healthier person, they also are more productive.
It makes logical sense. If you’re feeling 100%, then you’ll give 100% of your efforts right?
Meditation, journaling and/or prayer should be included in your healthy habits as well since they are wonderful stress reducers, among other things.
In order to sustain the path of success in your business, your physical, personal and emotional health are paramount.
2. You’ll Be a Better Leader
We’ve all crossed paths with a few highly motivated and extremely determined born-leaders. And if you take a good long look at them, you’ll notice they tend to take very good care of themselves.
Leaders inherently have a drive to succeed, a higher purpose that includes taking care of others. The best leaders understand that in order to do both of those things, they need to be a little selfish.
Studies have shown that acting in your own-self interest may give you an advantage in leadership roles because those who have a well developed sense of self tend to be more confident.
Melissa Deuter, a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, says the key is to be “self-focused NOT self-involved.”
Besides, if you can’t even take care of yourself, how on Earth are you supposed to be able to care for others.
3. Happiness is Contagious
A self-focused person tends to be a genuinely positive person and that positive outlook spreads easily. Carve out some time to do activities you enjoy, it will recharge your mental battery and make you happy. Not only will your teammates, clients family and friends feel that energy and happiness, they will be inspired by it.
Better relationships create a happier, healthier environment all around, personally AND professionally.
It’s important to remind yourself that you are the LEADER of you, take this role seriously and your professional and personal life will thank you!
